    Galileo Second Generation

    Europe’s Galileo is the world’s most precise satellite navigation system, providing metre-level accuracy to billions of users. ESA and European industry are preparing a new generation of satellites for the European Union, the Galileo Second Generation or G2, that will revolutionise the fleet with enhanced capabilities.

    Galileo Second Generation satellites will integrate seamlessly with the current fleet to form the largest European satellite constellation and deliver essential services worldwide. With fully digital navigation payloads, electric propulsion, a better-performing navigation antenna, inter-satellite link capacity and an advanced atomic clock configuration, G2 satellites will provide more robust and reliable positioning, navigation and timing.

    Galileo is managed and funded by the European Commission, in partnership with ESA and EUSPA. Since its inception, ESA leads the design and development and is entrusted with R&D activities. EUSPA is the system prime for the operational system and oversees the exploitation of services.

    Building NASA’s NEXT Generation Spacesuits

    NASA is partnering with industry for revolutionary NEW spacesuits for exploration like we’ve never seen before.

    These personalized spaceships will be more high-tech and modern, provide a better fit for a larger range of sizes, adapt to a more diverse group of astronauts and have better protection from the harsh environment of space. With enhanced mobility, our astronauts will be more nimble than ever before.

    New spacesuits will be used at the International Space Station, during Artemis lunar surface missions, atGateway orbiting the Moon, and will prepare us for humanity’s next giant leap – sending astronauts to Mars.

    A new generation of European Launch Vehicles

    We strive for the future of Europe in space and key to this endeavour is maintaining access to space.

    This objective is accomplished by supporting the development of new launch vehicles and next year will be an important year: Vega-C and Ariane 6 will fly for the first time.

    Vega-C is an enhanced version of Europe’s current Vega, with increased power and capacity.

    Ariane 6 is Europe’s next heavy-lift launcher which will replace Ariane 5. With Ariane 6 the approach is evolving for the assembly and production processes, and also in the sharing of responsibilities between us and Industry.

    In parallel to preparing a new generation of launchers, we are also working on its first reusable spacecraft, Space Rider, that will fly on top of a Vega-C and which should be confirmed at Space19+, the Ministerial Conference in Seville in November 2019.

    Already, the future of European Space transportation is clearly visible in Kourou where Vega-C and Ariane 6 are step-by-step becoming a reality.

    Third Generation Satellite Joins NASA’s Communication Network

    On Friday, August 18, NASA launched the third in a series of three advanced, Tracking and Data Relay Satellites, known as TDRS-M, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, in Florida. This latest addition to the fleet will augment a space communications network that provides the critical path for high data-rate communication to a host of spacecraft including the International Space Station and its resupply vehicles, the Hubble Space Telescope and many of NASA’s Earth-observing fleet spacecraft.
