It’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere on Earth, but we’re not the only place with ice and snow! From the frozen polar craters of Mercury to methane frost on the mountains of Pluto, enjoy season’s greetings from around the solar system.

Season’s Greetings from NASA 2018
On December 24, 1968, Apollo 8 arrived at the Moon and began orbital insertion. The Apollo spacecraft flew most of the way to the Moon sideways,pointed toward celestial “north” for guidance purposes.
NASA astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, William Anders became the first humans to travel beyond low Earth orbit and orbit another celestial body.
They were also the first humans to see the far side of the Moon, and Earth as a whole planet, taking the famous Earthrise photo.
On this 50th anniversary of the historic flight of Apollo 8, NASA wishes Season’s Greetings to everyone on the good Earth.

Chinese greetings from space
Astronauts on Chinese space station Tiangong-2 greet ESA and Thomas Pesquet. This video was recorded inside the Chinese space station Tiangong-2 by astronauts Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong. The duo landed safely on Earth on 18 November after spending a month orbiting Earth. A few hours before their descent, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet was launched aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station.
ESA’s Director of Human Spaceflight, David Parker, noted, “Human spaceflight provides many opportunities to increase international cooperation, and the interaction between the Astronaut Centre of China and the European Astronaut Centre is already creating positive experiences on which to build for the future.”
A cheesecake created by French chef Alain Ducasse for Thomas Pesquet’s six-month mission on the International Space Station was sent to the Chinese astronauts.
Chinese astronaut Ye Guangfu, who trained with the astronauts in this video, took part in ESA’s underground course this summer.

NASA Season’s Greetings 2010
NASA Television’s 2010 Season’s Greetings ID takes us on a journey through some of Hubble’s most beautiful images and ends with a view of a peaceful Earth through the cupola of the International Space Station.
