🚩 The Battle of the Catalaunian Plains, (AD 451), battle fought between the Huns under Attila and a mixed Roman and Visigoth force under Aetius and Theodoric I; checked the Hunnic advance in Europe. The battle, long-remembered for its ferocity, resulted in Attila’s defeat, though the casualty figures in traditional accounts are probably exaggerated. The Huns’ defeat prevented the widespread destruction and spoliation of Gaul, but it is unlikely that Attila’s horde could have made any deep impression upon the Latin and urban character of the country.

🚩 After the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, the Christian hold over south-eastern Europe weakened greatly. The Ottoman Sultanate expanded their control and influence as far as the Danube. But now the European rulers responded. A large Christian coalition mobilized to reduce the growing Ottoman power in Europe.

🚩 Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is often thought of as a state that only looked powerful on the map at one point in history, but that its destruction was in fact inevitable, as it got devoured by its neighbours over time. However, the Battle of Klushino is an example of one of the greatest triumphs of the Polish cavalry and of excellence and supremacy of the Polish military in the early 17th century, as well as their ability to project power and influence well beyond its borders.

🚩 Duke William (1027-1087) is an emblematic figure in the history of Normandy, best known for his conquest of England. However, his turbulent youth is rarely spoken of. His father, Robert the Magnificent, died and left an eight-year-old boy in charge of the Duchy. A number of barons refused to obey a “bâtard” and brought civil war to Normandy. The young Duke narrowly escaped death and was forced into hiding. When he reappeared in around 1040, new revolts broke out. William is about to live through a defining moment of his life, which, though ignored by many people, will be of great importance to him – and others: the Battle of Vas ès dunes. On the outcome of this battle will depend not only the future of Normandy, but later, as we know it, the future of England and France.
🚩 Battle of Kadesh 1274 BC was a major battle fought between the Egyptians under Ramses II and the Hittites under Muwatallis. It was one of the world’s largest chariot battles, fought on the banks of the Orontes river, where Ramses II sought to wrest Syria from the Hittites and recapture the Hittite-held city of Kadesh…
🚩 The Battle of Achelous was one of the last major efforts of the fading Byzantine Empire to re-expand their territory, and influence, into southeastern Europe. Instead, it was an unmitigated military disaster for the Byzantines, essentially leaving their entire northern frontier exposed to conquest by Bulgarian armies from Western Asia. Moreover, the battle effectively marked the end of Byzantium as a great power, though the rump state continued to hang on for five more centuries.
🚩 The climactic battle in the war that followed the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Battle of Philippi’s bloody outcome would decide the future of the Rome. Will the 500-year old Republic survive or will Rome become a monarchy in all but name?
🚩 With the decline of the Byzantine Empire, the Bulgarian and Serbian states were gradually losing their power, while the young Ottoman state began its conquest of the Balkan lands. Clashes between Ottomans and Serbs, beginning from the 1350’s, led to the gory Battle of Maritsa on 26 September 1371. Some of the powerful Serbian Principalities became vassals of the Ottoman State, while other rallied under the banner of Prince Lazar to stop the Ottomans in the battle of Kosovo…

🚩 After the defeat at Dara the year prior, the Sassanian King of Kings Kavad I was eager to regain the initiative in the war against the Eastern Roman Empire. His plan was to send an army along the Euphrates and strike deep into Syria, with the ultimate objective being to capture Antioch and cut the Romans off from Palestine and Egypt. But the local Roman garrisons spotted the Persian army and relayed the message to Belisarius, who made way to intercept Kavad’s army in Syria.

🚩 The Battle of Grunwald was one of medieval Europe’s most bloodiest battles. Polish-Lithuanian victory broke the Teutonic Order, marking the end of the order’s expansion along the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea and the beginning of the decline of its power.

🚩 The collapse of the Western Roman Empire has since the very emergence of modern historiography been viewed as a rapid and violent period of decay. The central role in the ruin of the Western provinces of the Empire has often been attributed to the so-called “Barbarians” or people living beyond the Rhine and Danube frontiers. The view of a violent and bloody takeover of the empire by unorganized mobs of technologically and culturally inferior tribes has since gotten under a lot of deserved scrutiny.

🚩 On a late November morning in the year 1095, the rousing sermon of Pope Urban II reverberated across Europe. Thousands of knights and ordinary people took the cross and marched East. Over the next two hundred years the Christian armies attempted to recover Palestine from Islamic rule. But conquering these lands was easier than keeping them. What were the strategic methods employed by the Crusader states to keep hold of the Holy Land?
🚩 Heraclius’ campaigns are an example of an indirect approach to war strategy. And although his gains would be swiftly lost in the wake of the Muslim Conquest, the method by which they were achieved would remain a point of pride in Byzantine military history.

🚩 The Battle of Hastings was extremely important for the history of England. Duke William’s invasion was one of the most daring gambles in history and it ended the rule of the Anglo-Saxons that had lasted for over 600 years since the Roman times. The story of what happened was recorded in the Bayeux Tapestry.

🚩On the surface it is a minor battle in the Peloponnesian war, but in fact it was quite significant. It, arguably, turned the tide of the war and marked the first time that a written record was made of a deliberate use of a cavalry reserve in the heat of the battle.

Battle of Kulikovo, fought near the Don River in 1380, was the first victory for Russian forces over the Mongol Golden Horde since the subjugation by Batu Khan. It demonstrated the developing independence of the Russian lands from Mongol rule (which had been imposed in 1240) and was a giant step for the Duchy of Moscow in its rise to leadership of the Russian people.

🎄❄️ The Battle of Agincourt was an English victory in the Hundred Years’ War. It took place on 25 October 1415 (Saint Crispin’s Day) near Azincourt, in Northern France. The unexpected English victory against the numerically superior French army boosted English morale and prestige, crippled France and started a new period of English dominance in the war.
