Fire Resistant Water Balloon – Sick Science! #122

Common sense tells you that it’s impossible to boil water in a paper bag, but this classic parlor trick was a favorite of Victorian magicians. Flying Tea Rocket – Sick Science! #024
The Tea Bag Rocket is really an adaptation of a classic science demonstration called the Ditto Paper Rocket. If you’re old enough to have experienced Ditto paper, you’ll recall the bluish-purple ink and that unforgettable smell of freshly printed copies. (Come to find out… both the Ditto machine solvent and the ink were highly toxic, but no one seemed to care back then.) Each piece of Ditto paper had a sheet of tissue paper that separated the two-part form, and it was this discarded piece of paper that teachers and kids used to make Ditto paper “rockets.” Since Ditto paper is a thing of the past, science enthusiasts have found a simple replacement – a tea bag.

Fire Tornado – Cool Science Demo
Check out this and other cool science demos at http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiments/ When you picture a tornado, most of us imagine a whirling column of air poking down from the clouds. But this tornado-like effect is not limited to just the air. A fire tornado or fire whirl is just like a tornado but it’s made of fire. As the heated air from the fire rises, strong air currents (often whipping through the trees) cause the air molecules to spin (often referred to as angular or rotational momentum) which shapes the flame into the shape of a tornado.

Mountain Pine Beetle
Patches of red pine trees blanket Colorado’s high country and serve as a warning for an an incredible forest fire that will be unlike anything the state of Colorado has ever experienced. You cant blame this one on drought, but instead a tiny little black beetle living just under the bark. According to Colorado State forestry officials, an estimated 750,000 acres of trees have been killed by the Mountain Pine Beetle and this is just the beginning.
