    đźš© In the aftermath of the catastrophic Roman defeat at Arausio in 105 BC, the Republic found itself facing one of the gravest crises in its history. The devastating losses left Rome vulnerable, with the northern frontiers open to vast migrating tribes seeking new lands. The Teutones and Ambrones, in particular, continued their slow but steady movement through Gaul, pressing ever closer to Roman territory. Fear and unrest spread throughout Italy as memories of Arausio lingered, and the Senate urgently sought capable leadership to restore confidence.

    It was in this climate that Gaius Marius, already celebrated for his victories in North Africa, was elected consul again and tasked with reorganizing the battered legions. Drawing recruits even from the poorest citizens, he forged a hardened army ready to confront the looming threat. As the tribal hosts advanced, the stage was set in southern Gaul for a decisive encounter that would determine Rome’s survival.

    Located in Frascati, Italy, ESRIN – known as the ESA Centre for Earth Observation – is one of the five ESA specialised centres situated in Europe. The mission and payload operations of ESA’s Earth observation satellites are managed here and ESRIN is the primary source for the acquisition, distribution and exploitation of data from these and other non-ESA satellites.Within ESRIN, a key role in Europe’s space effort has been undertaken with the development of the new small launcher, Vega, which took its maiden voyage in February 2012.
    ESRIN designs and develops all ESA-wide software for corporate applications and is responsible for developing security measures for classified space programmes. The European Centre for Space Records (ECSR) is also based at ESRIN. The ECSR appraises and preserves the valuable technical records of completed ESA projects together with their management archives to safeguard this valuable knowledge for generations to come.Finally, ESRIN is home to ESA’s Near-Earth Object Coordination Centre.     I russi furono i primi a lanciare una missione sulla luna mentre gli americani i primi a camminare sulla sua superficie. Oggi la luna continua ad essere al centro di ambiziose ricerche come ci conferma anche il direttore generale dell’Agenzia spaziale europea Jan Wörner. Una base internazionale, una stazione aperta ai diversi Stati membri dell’Agenzia e ai paesi di tutto il mondo.

    Un sogno animato dalla stessa passione che ha portato il primo uomo sulla Luna. Certo finora nessuno ha mai realizzato un progetto simile. Dalla missione spaziale Apollo sono stati fatti passi da gigante.
