🚩 I’m very pleased to have worked with Dr. Byron Waldron on this series. His research and incredible insight into the Crisis of the Third Century made this video possible. The Crisis of the Third Century was one of the darkest periods in Roman history. By 270 AD the empire had practically disintegrated, but emperor Aurelian managed to string an unprecedented series of military victories to restore the Roman Empire.

The Battle of Catalaunian Fields was one of most enthralling military engagements in history. Doing research on this topic was amazingly fun. I highly recommend you check out the sources I used for this video, and give them the credit that they deserve. It’s thanks to them that we get to learn about these battles in such amazing detail.

This is the continuation of the mini series about “Caesar’s civil War”.
The battle of Pharsalus was the decisive engagement that cemented Caesars legacy and finalized the procedure of Rome’s transition from a Republic to an Empire.
Caesar’s civil war would continue even after Pharsalus but that was the turning point.
Few conflicts have rivaled the scale and destruction of the Punic wars fought between Rome and Carthage. In this first episode I set the stage for a conflict that will reshape history!

The Eastern Roman Empire was under constant Ottoman pressure ever since the new conquerors appeared in the Anatolia. Although the Ottomans tried to take Constantinople on a number of occasions, they had to lift the siege of the city due to the Crusades of Varna and Nicopolis, the Timurid Invasion and the battle of Ankara, and the Interregnum period that happened after their Sultan Bayezid was taken hostage by Timur. However, after the victories at the battles of Varna (1444) and 2nd Kosovo (1448) against the crusaders of Wladyslaw III and John Hunyadi, the road to Constantinople was open and the new sultan Mehmed II set his sight on the city of the Roman emperors…

📖 Caesar’s Civil War (49–45 BC), was one of the last politico-military conflicts in the Roman Republic before the establishment of the Roman Empire. The war was a four-year-long politico-military struggle, fought in Italy, Illyria, Greece, Egypt, Africa, and Hispania. In a series of battles over the years, Caesar defeated his enemies (the Optimates) and became Dictator for life. The changes to Roman government eliminated the political traditions of the Roman Republic (509–27 BC) and led to the Roman Empire (27 BC–AD 476).

📝 I’m working on the Battle of Cannae and I decided to compile the first 10 episodes, because when combined they have some 2 hours of video. So grouping them into two 1-hour videos (Parts 1 – 5) and (Parts 6 – 10) would make it a lot easier for you guys to watch, rather than go through every episode individually.

On Friday 27 September, ESRIN, our establishment in Italy welcomed members of the public on site as part of European Researchers’ Night. Joining research centres throughout Europe, European Researchers’ Night, promoted each year by the European Commission, is targeted at people of all ages who want to know more about science, research, and space exploration.

Earth from Space is back after the summer break! Copernicus Sentinel-2 takes us over a set of small towns, located around 20 km southeast of Rome, Italy and known collectively as Castelli Romani, in this week’s edition of the Earth from Space programme.

Air pollution is a global environmental health problem that is responsible for millions of people dying prematurely every year. In cities and towns, traffic pumps pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide directly into the air we breathe, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, for example. Governments and decision-makers rely heavily on satellite data, such as that from the Copernicus Sentinel-5P mission, and computer models to show how pollution accumulates and how it is carried in the air so that they can develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
The United Nations World Health Organization marks World Health Day on 7 April every year. The third Sustainable Development Goal underlines the right to health: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. On-orbit research, space technology and space applications can help improve health on Earth by monitoring our environment, helping track disease, improving diagnostics, and working on new medicines among other things. The UN is also focusing particularly this year on universal health coverage.
