  1. I would like to add that this battle had a profound effect on military tactics over the next few centuries. The fact that an outnumbered Barbarian army consisting largely of Heavy cavalry defeated Rome's legendary heavy infantry, created a new military doctrine that favored Heavy cavalry that would last for hundreds of years and leading to the creation of mounted knights in the middle ages, the details of the battle notwithstanding. The winds of change started here.
