    The Gallic town in which Julian wintered was named VIENNE, not Vienna, which was then known as Vindobona and located in what is now Austria.

    Julian is known as Julian the apostate. For centuries he had a bad reputation as he tried to restore the Roman/Hellenic pantheon and wrote (rather well) against Christianity. His campaigns against the Parths turned out disastrous and he died in a battle. So Christianity was not abolished, and the rest is history.
