The Ottoman invasion of Europe was truly challenged for the first time during the Battle of Kosovo of 1389. The Serbs and other Balkan peoples alongside their allies from Western and Eastern Europe fought valiantly against overwhelming odds and although they lost, the foundation of the future resistance, that continued until the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, was set. This battle was also remarkable due to the fact that leaders of both armies were killed during it. Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović died in the battle and Sultan Murad I was assassinated by the Serbian knight Miloš Obilić, who was killed shortly after. All three are considered martyrs by their people and the spirit of this battle is still part of the bitter animosity…

  1. Im a Serb and Im proud to be one BUT in Serbian archives there is no evidence that Milos Obilic ever existed, same for Turkish arcives and the Turks were very gentle with their historical archives. Even on the bettlefield there is no real evidence that Milos killed Murat. Im saying this becuse in Serbian history many people were gloryfied for no reason. Like Marko Kraljevic, he was a Turkish vassal, he never fought on Serbian side, same for 10 Jugovic Brothers and Jug Bogdan. Well Jug Bogdan did exist but those 10 others did not they are just epic tales.

Samo zelim da kazem da je ovo istina sto sam napisao a vi kukajte koliko hocete. Nasa istorija je prebogata ali mnogo volimo da preuvelicavamo nesto.

  2. Battle of Maritza River is so underrated.35000 soldier led by king himself were beaten by 1000 light turkish akınjis. What a crushing defeat… Needs more credit than Teutoburg Forest Ambush
