Currently, live views from the International Space Station (ISS) are streaming from an external camera mounted on the ISS module called Node 2. Node 2 is located on the forward part of the ISS. The camera is looking forward at an angle so that the International Docking Adapter 2 (IDA2) is visible. If the Node 2 camera is not available due to operational considerations for a longer period of time, a continuous loop of recorded HDEV imagery will be displayed. The loop will have “Previously Recorded” on the image to distinguish it from the live stream from the Node 2 camera. After HDEV stopped sending any data on July 18, 2019, it was declared, on August 22, 2019, to have reached its end of life.
Thank you to all who shared in experiencing and using the HDEV views of Earth from the ISS to make HDEV so much more than a Technology Demonstration Payload!
During Luca’s Mission Beyond, we sent warm wishes to the astronaut on his birthday (27 September) onboard the ISS by gifting a virtual candle to blow out on an Astro Pi.
Astro Pi computers come with a set of sensors and gadgets that can be used to run great scientific experiments by means of computer coding. This set of sensors is called ‘Sense HAT’ (that stands for ‘Hardware Attached on Top’).
The Sense HAT add-on board was specially created for the Astro Pi competition. The board gives Astro Pi the ability to ‘sense’ and make many kinds of measurements, from temperature to movement, and to output information using a special display – the 8×8 LED matrix. The Astro Pis are also equipped with a joystick and buttons – just like a videogame console!

L’urina dell’astronauta viene riciclata – in acqua potabile.

This animation, using data from the Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite, shows the nitrogen dioxide emissions from 20 December 2019 until 16 March 2020 – using a 10-day moving average. The drop in emissions in late-January is visible, coinciding with the nationwide quarantine, and from the beginning of March, the nitrogen dioxide levels have begun to increase.

NASA astronaut Al Worden has died at the age of 88.
Worden served as command module pilot for Apollo 15 with Dave Scott and Jim Irwin. During the mission Worden became the first human to carry out a deep space walk. He logged 38 minutes in extravehicular activity outside the command module, “Endeavour.”
During 1972-1973, Worden was Senior Aerospace Scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center, and from 1973 to 1975, he was chief of the Systems Study Division at Ames.

Battle of Vaslui – It is the dead of winter, January 10th 1475. On this day Stefan III, the Prince of Moldavia, leads an army of 30.000 Christian warriors into battle against an invading army of more than 50.000 Ottomans, commanded by Suleiman Pasha, the governor-general of Rumelia. Suleiman was sent by the Ottoman Sultan, Mehmed II – the Conqueror, to permanently crush all resistance and re-establish Ottoman control over Moldavia, after it’s ruler Prince Stefan III stopped paying tribute and began hostile operations against the Ottoman Empire. Suleiman’s army is confident of victory, but the crafty Prince of Moldavia will soon become one of the few men in history who faced such unfavorable odds and yet managed to seriously threaten the mighty Ottoman Empire. Years of conflict between the Princedom of Moldavia and the Ottoman Empire has reached the snow-covered plain near the town of Vaslui , and a battle known locally as the Battle of the High Bridge is about to begin…

★ The Battle of Poitiers in 1356 AD was a major encounter of the Hundred Years War. But little attention is given to the Grand Chevauchée (raid) of 1355, conducted by the Black Prince – the son of King Edward III. Chevauchée of 1355 was, in hindsight, the ‘Grand Prelude’ of sorts to the Battle of Poitiers that took place just less than a year later.
Although no battles were fought and no territory conquered during the Chevauchée of 1355, southern France was utterly devastated. The destruction of the rich countryside and urban areas, and the atrocities against the civilian population are among the most brutal military campaigns of the medieval period.
This video is part 1 of a two-part mini series about the Battle of Poitiers, 1356 AD.
