Genetic Engineering Will Change Everything Forever – CRISPR

Designer babies, the end of diseases, genetically modified humans that never age. Outrageous things that used to be science fiction are suddenly becoming reality. The only thing we know for sure is that things will change irreversibly.

  1. Naturally such treatments would be reserved for the rich and powerful. The ordinary peasant will keep relying on Tylenol for cancer treatments. Imagine guys like Rockefeller, Morgan and such guys having life spans of 500 years, now that would be scary

  2. Would long life span be beneficial for humanity, or a curse? Would it make us wiser and better capable of adapting to new conditions and allow our civilization to evolve faster? Or would we just stagnate and eventually disappear? How would a society where you almost never see a child feel like? Asimov gave quite a bit of taught on this, he saw a long life span as a blessing for an individual but a curse to humanity as a whole.

  3. But… but…. what will they do with all those hospitals if they cure all diseases, or if the cure is just a few injections of your OWN modified DNA??
Doesn't it stand to reason that this type of technical knowledge will be sequestered by the powers that be or the very doctors sill discredit it so they don't lose their jobs and have to learn something else?? The image of doctors as DISINTERESTED in money and just want to help is a lie, most people study medicine and money is one of the top three reasons they do it. Pr pharmaceutical companies probably are already trying to stop this, and possibly have the incentive to discredit it somehow….."it was a pipe dream after all, all the hope for those cures turned out to NOT be possible because they couldn't overcome XXX technical issues." Doctors and the link with pharmaceutical companies and their incentives are evil, and I don't trust a doctor any more than I trust a common thief or a common variety of illl educated lawyer. Most doctors are just recipe writers.
